Sources of ethnic inequality in Viet Nam
نویسندگان
چکیده
Viet Nam’s ethnic minorities tend to be concentrated in remote areas and have lower living standards than the ethnic majority. How much is this due to poor economic characteristics versus low returns to characteristics? Is there a self-reinforcing culture of poverty in the minority group? We find that differences in returns to productive characteristics are an important explanation for ethnic inequality. There is evidence of compensating behavior on the part of the minorities. The results suggest that to redress ethnic inequality, policies need to reach minorities within poor areas and explicitly recognize behavioral patterns that have served them well in the short term, but intensify ethnic differentials in the longer term. q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Free Vibration Analysis of Quintic Nonlinear Beams using Equivalent Linearization Method with a Weighted Averaging
In this paper, the equivalent linearization method with a weighted averaging proposed by Anh (2015) is applied to analyze the transverse vibration of quintic nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli beams subjected to axial loads. The proposed method does not require small parameter in the equation which is difficult to be found for nonlinear problems. The approximate solutions are harmonic oscillations, whic...
متن کاملAn Emergent Landscape of Inequality in Southeast Asia: Cementing Socio-Spatial Inequalities in Viet Nam
Contemporary versions of globalization assume that market deregulation is the precursor to democratic development and the growth of livable cities. This paper examines the specific case of Viet Nam to describe how the creation and construction of cities in the developing world may be laying the foundations for future social inequality. Using a futuresoriented method, the paper reviews the devel...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of Functionally Graded Skew Plates in Thermal Environment based on the New Third-order Shear Deformation Theory
Functionally graded materials are commonly used in thermal environment to change the properties of constituent materials. The new numerical procedure of functionally graded skew plates in thermal environment is presented in this study based on the C0-form of the novel third-order shear deformation theory. Without the shear correction factor, this theory is also taking the desirable properties a...
